Reader Profile

For my music magazine, I have chosen an underground music theme. I have done this because I believe that in the market right now, there is not an outlet for people who are not fans of mainstream music, to receive information on new, underground artists. The name of my magazine will be "Behind The Mike". To decide this name, I conducted a survey for music fans aged 15-30 and the name Behind The Mike, came out as the most popular.

Reader Profile- Tristan.
Tristan is a 17 year old musician from Camden. He is currently doing his a levels and studies Biology, Chemistry, Music and English Literature. He plays many instruments that include, Guitar, Drums Piano and Saxophone. Tristan is the lead guitarist in a band called "Medicinal" His band frequently competes in garage music competitions, and are quickly gaining recognition within the UK underground scene. His band have done many collaborations, and always make the effort to try and put together concerts including other Indie/Indie Rap bands, to raise awareness of the expanding creme of underground artists coming up through the ranks. This magazine would be very helpful to him, it would help him in his discovery of bands and individual artists, that could fill up the line up when he does arrange a concert. Not only this, but this magazine could help his bands bid for recognition. They Feel that they have exhausted the use of social networking sites for promotion, and their bands would more than benefit from a form of promotion and distribution that is shop bought. Hence the magazine.

Rolling Stone Inside Research.
  • Rolling Stone Normally retails for  £2:59
  • The Colour Scheme Is usually a white background with the Master head, "Rolling Stone" In red. However, this varies sometimes, depending on the wardrobe and location of the artist, to avoid Colour clashing.
  • The Magazine Normally Has one central piece that is done on the featured artist. These are usually quite revealing, famous articles have been ones such as "Rihanna Strikes Back" or "Jay-Z- King Of America".
  • The rest of the articles are usually much smaller and music related, but aside from music, issues such as politics, movies and Tv, and reviews.
  •  The Original genre of the magazine was Rock, but as the years have passed, Hip Hop and Pop have been in alliance with Rock.
  • Rolling Stone does not have an online version of the magazine, it is only sold in stores, however it does have a website that gives almost a leak on each magazine before its release. This is effective because it helps the reader to know what they would be buying before they bought it.

Deconstruction of RAVE Magazine Cover.

The Beginning.

Following the media exam, Our new main focus is now to produce a music magazine that includes, Front cover, Contents page and a doubble page spread with an interview with an artist featured on the cover. Its going to take a lot of work as Photoshop and I have not really got along all that much in the past, but i am willing to be humble and offer a proposal for reconciliation.

We Start by researching a particular magazine. I chose the Rolling Stone.

 Founded : Jann Wenner
In 1967 along with jazz critic Ralph Gleason, Wenner scraped together $7500 from friends and family and founded Rolling Stone magazine in San Francisco.
By 1989, Rolling Stone’s parent company, Straight Arrow Publishers, Inc was worth perhaps $250 million.
Throughout its history Rolling Stone has featured top Hollywood actors, musicians and other famous personalities on its covers. According to the book “1,000 Rolling Stone Covers,” compiled by the magazine’s editors, Mick Jagger is the leader in most Rolling Stone magazine covers with 27 total.
